About

Nationally Award-winning author M. Reed McCall grew up in rural Upstate New York as part of a large and loving family. Before becoming a writer, she first considered a career in national security, studying for a brief time at the University of Leningrad before completing undergraduate degrees in Russian and English back in the United States, followed by a Master’s degree in English Literature.

As Mary Reed McCall, she published seven historical romance novels with HarperCollins Publishers. Moose Tracks on the Road to Heaven is her first work of contemporary fiction. Mary makes her permanent home in New York State with her husband and children, and when she is not writing or involved with family activities, she teaches high school and college level English.

    • Criminal psychology sounds fascinating. What little studying I’ve done in that field, however, leads me to believe I’d have been too frightened about what I learned to be much use. 🙂

I actually majored in Russian first, with the intent to work for the government (my father was also a civilian with Top Secret clearance), and I had a preliminary interview with the CIA in my early twenties. Ultimately, I realized that it wasn’t the right path for me, and I shifted into teaching and writing. I’ve never regretted it!

      • Still, I admire you for taking a chance on an opportunity like that, and for having the insight to realize it wasn’t the right path for you.

I went to college for computer engineering, of course, after I spent all that money I realized software development, graphic design or game programming would’ve been more suited to my personality and interests.

Oh well, you live and you learn.

  3. Stopping by with a word of thanks for visiting my blog today and “liking” my review of Is This Tomorrow. We have a common interest–writing–and you might enjoy my writing blog at http://sherreymeyer.com. Like the look and feel of your blog and am intrigued by the books you’ve written in the historical fiction genre as well as Moose Tracks. Perhaps a review will find its way to Puddletown.

    • Thank you, Sherrey, for coming over here for a visit as well. 🙂 I have just taken a quick peek at your writing blog, and I can tell already that I will enjoy spending time there; I’m always interested in fellow writers’ thoughts, work, and insights, and your blog seems rich in all of those. I also have to tell you that the main photo on your blog is wonderful and pulled me right in. Is that your home, or a family home? I love it and the grounds all around. It’s all very homey and beautiful.

Thank you for your kind comments about my blog and books. I would be honored should you choose to read any of them, with or without a review (though those are always welcome, too 🙂 ) Cheers and happy writing!
